South Pasadena High Drops CIF Contest to Alta Loma

Second Round Match Goes Five Games

South Pasadena High’s girls’ volleyball season came to an end Thursday Night as Alta Loma outlasted the Tigers 3-2 in CIF Southern Section second round play-off action.

Alta Loma won the first game 25-21, but the Tigers came back to tie it with a 25-21 victory in the second. South Pas took a 2-1 advantage winning the third contest 25-19 before the Braves rallied for a 25-14 win in the fourth to send it into the final game. With the match all even, Alta Loma prevailed down the stretch, winning the finale 15-13.

“There was some great individual and team efforts on both sides,” said Mark Zalin, South Pasadena High’s athletic director. “It’s what high school sports should be about – hard work, school spirit and passion for the game of volleyball.”

Prior to Thursday night, the Tigers had beaten Alta Loma twice on the season.

With the loss, South Pasadena finished the season with 21-3 record, including a perfect 10-0 mark in Rio Hondo League play to claim the title. The Braves improved to 20-13 with Thursday night’s win.
