South Pasadena Arts Council (SPARC) is seeking entries for its second annual juriedexhibition, October 30 – November 30, 2013 at the SoPas Gallery, 1121 Mission St, South Pasadena CA 91030. The Opening Reception will take place on Saturday, November 9, from 6-8 pm.
Eligibility: The exhibition is open to all current paid SPARC member artists, or visual artists that join SPARC at the time of submission, are at least 18 years of age, and living and/or working in California. Membership for artists is $30/yr.
Artists are invited to submit up to 10 digital images of two or three-dimensional work completed within the last three years. SPARC is interested in works in any visual media, including, but not limited to painting, drawing, computer-generated images, sculpture, printmaking, ceramics and photography.
Juror: Joan Dooley
Joan Dooley is a fine art documentary photographer and art historian, whose style has been described as “decisive moment meets Jan Vermeer.” She is especially interested in exploring and capturing the “off” moments that reveal authentic emotions and narratives. Her photography has received a number of awards including a recent international annual “World in Focus” competition sponsored by the National Geographic. She has also received many teaching awards including the Santa Fe Center’s annual Patron Saint of Photography as well as Otis and CalArts Teacher of the Year.
For 12+ years she was Assistant Curator of Photographs at the J. Paul Getty Museum in Malibu working closely with the Getty’s world-class photo collection interpreting it for exhibition and publication.
Submission Deadline: All entries must be submitted no later than midnight, Friday, October 4, 2013.
